Description
Glacier National Park, Grinnell Glacier, southern portion of separating wall. Description with photo reads: "Not many years ago the upper and lower portions of Grinnell Glacier were one solid mass of ice. There is now a vertical wall of limestone separating them. For a long time, no doubt, the upper glacier cascaded over the wall to the lower. This, too, has ceased. At the south end of the upper glacier the ice of the two still joins, but cascading seems to have ceased. The picture shows the southern portion of the separating wall, on the top of which rests the upper glacier. The ragged skyline is the top of the Garden Wall, the Continental Divide, the top of the world. July, 1926, M. J. Elrod."
