Declaration of Intent for Harry Stanford
Subject
Immigration and emigration-United States-Forms. Stanford, Harry P., 1867-1944.
Description
Harry P. Stanford emigrated from Canada to the United States in 1872. This document establishes Stanford's intent and eligibility to become a naturalized citizen of the United States. This practice dates back to the Naturalization Act of 1795 and requires that the immigrant renounce loyalty to the country of birth and that country's leaders. One's Declaration of Intent was crucial for the purposes of land acquisition and supporting the right of the immigrant to remain in the United States.
