Title
Northern Pacific Railway force report for Cascade Division (Washington), 1887
Description
Force reports listed the number of laborers assigned to specific tasks and any notes by the foremen. These notes often include inclement weather conditions or progress on a specific project, such as a tunnel or bridge. As this report indicates, Chinese laborers were used to construct the Western portions of the Northern Pacific Railway, from Washington state into Montana. Here, Chinese works worked on grading and surfacing.
