Populating the West

The Northern Pacific Railway had an immigration department to encourage settlers to migrate to the American West. This push by the Northern Pacific to populate the areas served by its rail lines was geared toward both American-born citizens and immigrants alike.  Below are some documents created to entice Polish immigrants to settle in the West, including Trout Creek, Montana.

 

 

 

 

 

 

In the flyer above, "Darmo" means free. While this likely refers to the lecture, the Northern Pacific attempted to increase settlement along its track with publications like the one below.
