The Montana Alpha Chapter of the Sigma Phi Epsilon National Fraternity at the University of Montana-Missoula was installed on February 2, 1918. The fraternity was founded by men who first established the local fraternity Alpha Gamma Phi. Alpha Gamma Phi was established on February 21, 1916 as an outgrowth of the Authentic Society. The Authentic Society was a philosophical club organized on campus in 1913. Sigma Phi Epsilon closed in 1942 due to WWII, as the vast majority of men were enlisted. The house reopened in 1945.
